Treaty of Waitangi

New Zealand was a new country and a treaty needed to be created. There was a lot of disagreement and conflict between the Maori and early British settlers. The British wanted a civil government formed. The treaty was signed in Waitangi, in the Bay of Islands on February the 6Th 1840.

Last week while we were in class we watched a short re-enactment of the build up to the signing of the treaty. Well the treaty was set up in front of James Busby’s house in Waitangi. The Maori people were having second thoughts about the treaty. When they were ready the Governor and his men came out. James Busby began reading the treaty aloud to the Maori, while Henry Williams translated the English version of the treaty into Maori.

A few people had main jobs during the process of the treaty. Henry Williams was the missionary who translated the treaty from English to Maori. James Busby was helping William Hobson write a draft of the treaty. Hone Heke was one of the main Maori Chiefs who supported the treaty. Lastly William Hobson (Governor)was the person who was in charge of setting up the Treaty of Waitangi. In the treaty there were the 3 main principles which were Participation, Protection and Partnership.

This is how the 3 principles relate to the Pt England Way. Participation means participating in discussions in class. Secondly we always participate in sports with everyone. Lastly we always participate in group tasks and have good bonding. The second principle was Partnership.

When your at Pt England you have to have good relationships between friends. Secondly when you partner up with people you have to have a good working attitude with them. Lastly you also have to communicate positively with the teachers and staff here at school.

In protection , we protect each other from trouble. Secondly you protect yourself and others from bullies or be aware of them. Last but not least you are to help little children that are in trouble, are hurt or lost.

So from this day it is lucky that the treaty was signed or else you couldn't imagine what New Zealand would be like these days. Thanks to the Maoris and the Pakeha New Zealand has peace. It is really good that they had the 3 Principles because that is what helped make this day be real.

Favourite Colours in Room 21

This week we filled in a class survey about our Favourite Colours, Animals, Sports, Tv Proggrame and Fast food. I created a Pie graph for the results of our favourite colours. Purple was the most popular and the least popular was Yellow.
Here is the graph I created.

Day out to Sylvia Park [:

During the weekends my friend Anna received a Pitt bull puppy. The puppies name is now Simba. Simba is a red nose pitty with bright blue eyes. He is very quiet but he also fidgets alot and he has some very pointy little teeth that are really cute.

His first day with us we took him with us to Sylvia Park. Me and Anna were just playing around when this Chinese lady came up too us and she goes “ Oh you got a cute puppy, how old is he ? “ and my friend Anna goes “ Oh i’m sorry but he bites ! “ and then the lady ran away and me and Anna were laughing for ages.

While we were walking around with Simba , heaps of people saw him and they all wanted him. But one lady was scared of dogs/puppy's and she snitched on us to the security guard and we were really angry, but lucky we hid Simba away from everyone and acted like we didn’t have a puppy.

After that we went and brought us something to eat and drink because it felt like we were DEHYDRATED. I brought a 2 litre drink and that disappeared like a piece of cake. When we finished that we went for a walk around and we saw alot of people that we haven’t seen in ages and we were really happy.

I really love Simba and we had a great day seeing everyone, we were on a low buzz when the lady snitched on us but then we had a great day overall.

Holiday Highlight (:

During the school holidays I spent most of my time every where else rather than home. One day me Leena , April , Mele and our other friends decided to go to Swimarama , because it was too hot and we wanted to get out of the house.

When we got there it was packed and we were so happy to see each other that we ran up to each other and jumped on each other. At last we got into the outside pool and maan it was freezing cold. When half of the day was gone we finally decided to put sun block on and when we got into the pool we turned white and slippery because the sunblock wasn’t waterproof.

We had a whole day of fun and laughter and some really good bonding time. Then we were having a swim and we saw Lepa and Jephte come, so me and April went and said Hi.
After we finished at the pools we went to the takeaways and had a massive feed. Then finally we came back to GI late. We went for a walk and then finally we got home to rest.

When I got home I went into the bathroom and I had a really big sunburn, it was really sore. The sunburn lasted for 1 and a half weeks and it was painful.

I really enjoyed my day and I had a good time with everyone (:
