The Design Process --> Designing Furniture for our Street

Our topic this term is Bigger, Better, Faster and Stronger. We had a task to make furniture using the design process. We identified a need that there was no furniture in the street. This was causing the students to not respect and love the street. By designing furniture for the street we hope it will enhance our learning.

As part of researching we had to think about the important attributes for our furniture. Such as is it Safe, size, is it practical, innovative and creative. We used our netbooks to look for pictures and ideas that we inspired, we also found information.

We had to choose our favourite design and modify that design to make it our own. We generated ideas and made our work more creative and practical to make with the resources we have and the resources we can get. We also visualized different ideas in our heads. When we visualized our ideas we picked our favourite idea and we tried to make a prototype model.

When we choose an idea we had to make a prototype. A prototype is a small version of your design. It is made from things like paper, cardboard and other soft materials. We are still making our prototypes but only a couple of us are finish.

Geomytry - 18-05-2011

In room 22 we are learning about geometry for maths. For all the people who don’t know what geometry is, it is the study of size, shape and position of a two dimensional shape and a three dimensional figure.

We have been making tan - grams. Tan - Grams are pictures made from heaps of different shapes and different sized shapes. We had to measure and really think hard about it. We had different pictures like cats, swans and much more.

We have also been learning how to use compasses. Compasses help us make nice round circles. We also have been learning about how to draw two dimensional shapes in our books. Some of us have good spatial awareness that’s why they are so good.

I have really liked geometry. It has times where we have to focus and then we can play. I hope we do plenty more.
