Badminton Lessons with Laureen

Have you ever played Badminton before? Well I haven't and I was really eager to grab the Racket and Shuttle and play with it. This was on the 4th of August 2011.

Our first activity we did was where we had to use the racket to hit the shuttle in different ways. She taught us different combos where you had to hit the shuttle a couple of times and then do a under leg hit.

Our next activity we did was when we had to learn how to serve the shuttle. When you serve you have to hold the racket in a certain way. You hold it with your thumb in a V shape across from your chest and your elbow sticking out. We had a bin to try and serve the shuttle into it. When we finished practicing we had a competition , our class got halved and we had to try and beat each other by hitting the racket into the bin , the first round my oppositions won but then on round 2 my team won.

My favourite activity was when we had a partner. Our partner had to throw the shuttle and their partner had to hit the shuttle back to them and they had to try and catch the shuttle using the cone.

Overall I really enjoyed having that session with Laureen because I have never played badminton and I learnt alot of new things. I am really looking forward to our next session with her and I hope I have a good time.

On Monday the 1st of August our school just started term 3 after our two week holiday. We normally have a full school assembly but instead the year 7 and 8 students went to technology down at Tamaki College. After we finished technology we had a year 7 and 8 student assembly after morning tea. The teachers gave our new topic this term , this topic is "Keep your eye on the ball" it is also related to the Rugby World Cup . After assembly we got into pairs. My partner was Julie and the Rugby World Cup country we are studying on is the United States of America.
